ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text: History

Shortly after each convocation, dissertations are sent to ProQuest where they are processed and made available within 12 weeks. During the following year, records for the dissertations are added to the University of Chicago Library Catalog with a link to the full text of the dissertation in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, a subscription database. Many universities subscribe to ProQuest Dissertations & Theses. The database is not freely available.

3.1 Participation in the ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award is limited to those who have completed their doctorates since May of the year preceding that in which the award will be made.

The ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award was established in 1974 and is administered by the Information Science Education Committee. Beginning in 1997, ProQuest, formerly University Microfilms International (UMI) undertook sponsorship of the award.
