The National Science Foundation offers Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants (DDIG) to help support dissertation research in the following disciplines: environmental biology; integrative biology and neuroscience; cultural anthropology; physical anthropology; archaeology and archaeometry; developmental and learning sciences; geography and regional science; perception, action and cognition; linguistics; social psychology; decision, risk, and management science; economics; law and social science; methodology, measurement and statistics; political science; science and technology studies; societal dimention of engineering, science, and technology; sociology; arctic natural sciences and system science; atmospheric sciences; earth sciences; glaciology; oceanography; arctic social science.The YIBS Small Grants Program Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants are intended to provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research for improvement beyond the already existing project. These grants are intended for students who have already advanced to candidacy in a PhD program and who have already applied for extramural funding. The National Science Foundation awards Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in selected areas of the biological sciences. Proposals must fall within the scope of any of the clusters in the Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) or the Behavioral Systems Cluster in the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS). These grants provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research for improvement beyond the already existing project. Allowed are costs for doctoral candidates to participate in scientific meetings, to conduct research in specialized facilities or field settings, and to expand an existing body of dissertation research.Okpotor received the National Science Foundation Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant.
