The award committee will inform the candidates about the result of the selection well before the ACM SIGMOD Conference takes place each year, to allow the three best candidates to be recognized at the conference the same year. The name of the award recipient will only be publicly announced after the dissertation award session.

Tiara Rosemond, a doctoral candidate in the Arnold School’s Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior (HPEB), has won a Dissertation Award from the . The Board awards only two of these prestigious honors each year as a component of their Doctoral Scholars Program, which aims to increase the number of minority students who earn doctorates and choose careers as faculty at colleges and university. Created in 1993, the program has assisted more than 1,200 scholars at 94 institutions in 31 states over the last two decades.

Eligible projects for this year's Outstanding Thesis and Outstanding Dissertation awards are those successfully defended between August 1, 2014, and August 1, 2015. Nominations are due to academic colleges on November 16, 2015, and academic colleges must email their nominations to the Graduate College at by December 11, 2015.

The Vice Provost and Dean for Graduate Education announces the dissertation research fellowship awards program to support doctoral dissertation research. This annual program applies to doctoral student dissertation research activity to be conducted during the period July 1 - June 30. Applicants for the dissertation fellowship awards must be doctoral students in good academic standing who have completed required program course work & exams and have been formally admitted/advanced to doctoral candidacy.The ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award was established in 1974 and is administered by the Information Science Education Committee. Beginning in 1997, ProQuest, formerly University Microfilms International (UMI) undertook sponsorship of the award. All dissertation fellowship award recipients must submit a one-page final report to the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education at the conclusion of the award period. This report should describe the research that was actually facilitated by the availability of the funding and provide an update on the status of the research project.
